In April and May 2026, I traveled to Nairobi, Kigali, and Kampala for the first time. I went to East Africa for research, visiting schools and learning from the people designing, using, and caring for them. But the trip quickly became about much more than the research itself.

I spent a lot of time moving through each city, walking when I could, looking out of car windows, meeting people, eating, talking, and paying attention to the things around me. I found myself photographing buildings and streets, but also people, objects, colors, landscapes, and small moments that caught my attention. Some photographs were intentional. Others were simply things I saw and wanted to hold onto.

Series 01 brings together fifteen photographs from that journey. They aren't meant to tell a complete story of Nairobi, Kigali, or Kampala. They're fragments of how I experienced them for the first time.
